UV varnishes

Even with UV coatings, the number of different applications is almost unmanageable! UV coatings can be used as
Clear lacquers, matt lacquers or in pigmented form can be used. One distinguishes between

  • solvent-free UV coatings (so-called 100% systems)
  • solvent-based UV coatings
  • aqueous UV coatings
  • UV powder coatings (100% systems)

With solvent-based and water-based UV coating systems, care must be taken that before the UV curing process
all solvent components or the water are removed; otherwise the excellent end properties of the paints
be massively affected.

The UV coatings can be applied to a substrate using a wide variety of application processes.

Some common procedures are listed below:

  • various printing processes
  • Pour
  • roll
  • Spraying
  • Diving
  • Floods
  • squeegees etc.

Due to the fact that most UV coatings are applied as solvent-free or low-solvent formulations,
the introduction of the so-called VOC Directive (VOC = Volatile Organic Components) - or usually also called "Solvent Ordinance" - does not pose a problem in most cases.
