UV emitters

A wide variety of radiator types are available on the market. A distinction is made in industrial applications
between the following four UV radiation sources:

Lamps with a mercury filling (Hg lamps); one distinguishes between

  • Low-pressure mercury lamps
  • Medium-pressure mercury lamps and
  • High-pressure mercury lamps

These emitters can be used as pure Hg emitters or with different dopings such as e.g. B, Iron (Fe), Gallium (Ga)
or other substances can be purchased. These dopings influence the emission spectrum of the emitters.

In addition, a distinction is made between radiators with and without electrodes.

In addition to the above radiator types, the other types listed below are also used in mostly special areas:

  • excimer emitter
  • UV laser
  • UV LEDs

The UV LEDs in particular are being used more and more frequently in applications in which slow, uniform curing is important, e.g. B. in adhesive applications.

Medium-pressure mercury lamps (without doping) are used for the most part in industrial UV applications. The length
the radiator varies from a few centimeters to a radiator length of over 2,00 m.

The low-pressure lamps are found in large numbers in the area of neon tubes, in the cosmetics area or in the security area
(Checking banknotes etc.) their use.
