Hesse Lignal ends nitro lacquer production

As part of its sustainability strategy, Hesse Lignal has removed all nitrocellulose lacquers and solvent-based acid-curing lacquers from the Hammer surface specialist's range. The managing director of Hesse Lignal, Jens Hesse, explains: “By exiting the nitro paint market, we have achieved an interim goal in our sustainability strategy.”

In recent months, the company has switched corresponding customers to more sustainable products, so that the production and sales of unsustainable nitrocellulose lacquers and solvent-based acid-curing lacquers have been discontinued since the beginning of the year. Some solvent-based additives, dyes, pigment concentrates and associated thinners are also no longer available. By 2030, all solvent-based products should be replaced by sustainable alternatives. There are currently water-based products, varnishes made from sustainable raw materials, UV varnishes and natural oils.
